Frequently asked Questions

FAQ

What is the difference between single and twisted yarn?

SINGLE YARN
Single yarn consists of fibres held together by a small amount of twist; or fine threads held together with or without twist; or narrow strips of material; or synthetic bundled threads of sufficient thickness for use as yarn (single). Single yarn of the spun type, made from many short fibres, also requires twisting.

TWISTED YARN
After yarn is spun it is not strong enough for use in furniture fabrics, curtains, bathroom, bed, table or kitchen linens. In many cases, threads are twisted together to make the yarn stronger. These twisted threads are used as the basis for the fabrics. Twisted yarns result in a stronger end-product, which is more durable than single-yarn woven products.

What is combed cotton/yarn?

Combed yarns undergo an additional process step after carding, which ensures that:
- Short fibres are removed
- The fibres are more equally spaced than with carding alone

These properties lead to a better end-product:
- Softer and more uniform
- Better sheen and more beautiful colours
- More absorbent
- Less pilling
- More durable

What is the difference between reactive and indanthrene dyeing in yarns?

Indanthrene dyed fabrics are suitable for intensive use and have excellent colour retention. Maximum protection against light, washing and bleaching.
Reactive dyed fabrics offer good protection against light, but cannot be bleached and are not resistant to chlorine.

What is percale bedlinen?

Cotton percale has a minimum thread count of 200 per inch.
Percale refers to weave densities and yarn finenesses in excess of that of regular cotton (which has a thread count of 144 per inch processed).

What different types of filling are there for duvets?

1. Polyester hollow fibre
2. Duck feather and goose feather

1. Polyester hollow fibre
Hollow fibres provide a light, comfortable and warm duvet that offers sufficient protection in the form of layers of air between the fibres.
A polyester duvet is also easy to maintain and cheaper than a feather duvet. Additionally, it is hypoallergenic.

2. Duck feathers
Duck feathers are larger than goose feathers and provide more insulation and warmth. Both duck feathers and down provide good ventilation.

What is the difference between 100% cotton and 50% polyester/50% cotton bedlinen?

50% cotton - 50% polyester bedlinen
Is more durable thanks to the polyester fibre and less expensive than 100% cotton bedlinen, easy to maintain and less prone to shrinkage.

100% cotton
Cotton has good moisture absorption.

What is the industrial washing procedure for cotton percale bed linen?

Load ratio
1 kg of textiles / 12 l of machine capacity
1 kg of textiles / 4 to 5 l of softened water

Washing process
Pre-wash:
15 min at 35 °C (higher temperatures can fix gluing agents)
pH = neutral
Be sure to add a good wetting agent
Optionally: gradually increase the temperature up to 50 °C
A 2-bath process is preferred over a 1-bath process

Main wash:
15 min at 85 °C
pH 6–7 after the final rinse (for optimal mangling)
Press extraction: > 50% residual moisture

Machines
Washer-extractor is preferred over a tunnel washer.

Mangling
Immediately after pressing – the linen must remain sufficiently moist
28 m/min
175 °C
25 bar
Residual moisture: 2 – 3 %
Always test with a few sheets first before mangling the entire batch – high temperatures can fix residues of synthetic sizing agents. If necessary, rewash before mangling.
